Zia Alam (Advocate) was shot dead in a firing incident in North Karachi area when two unidentified bike riders fired straight bullets on him. He was only 47 years old while left behind 4 children, a grieving widow and many relatives. He was known to have strong standpoint over brutality and discrimination against MQM workers whereas he used to provide legal facilitation in court cases of MQM workers. MQM Canada in a joint statement issued on Sunday June 19, 2011 have said that June 19, 1992, was the darkest day in the history of Pakistan when thousands of MQM workers were killed in an extra-judicial operation conducted by the State. Every effort was made to erase MQM because of its rapid popularity throughout Pakistan. Despite state terrorism, MQM flourished because of the sacrifices and martyrdom of its workers who faced brutal torture. A number of them are still missing.   MQM ANNOUNCE '' MOURNING DAY '' AGAINST KILLING OF FORMER MPA LIAQUAT QURESHI : Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) announced to observe peaceful ‘mourning day’ tomorrow (Sunday) against killing of its former MPA Liaquat Qureshi and other more than 100 party workers and office bearers during last four months.   MQM Tabled Deweaponisation of Pakistan Bill in the National Assembly
Muttahida Quami Movement (MQM) has submitted a bill in the National Assembly secretariat seeking de-weaponization of the country, The bill suggested minimum seven years of imprisonment and Rs 100 million for the violator. De-weaponization Bill 2011, sought to curb the illegal production, trade and use of arms. Addressing the media in Islamabad, MQM Parliamentary leader in National Assembly Dr. Farooq Sattar said in the wake of increasing law and order problem control over illegal weapon was necessary. Murderers of Wali Khan Babar should be brought to book irrespective of political affiliations – Altaf Hussain
LONDON, JANUARY 15, 2011 : Founder and Leader of Muttahida Quami Movement has demanded arrest of the murderers of Wali Khan Babar even if they belonged to MQM. Expressing his concern over the fact that the murders of Wali Khan Babar were still at large, he said that the murder of Wali Khan Babar was an aggression on freedom of express ion. He stressed upon President Asif Zardari, Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gillani, Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Governor Sindh Ishrat-ul-Ebad and Chief Minister Sindh Qaim Ali Shah to hold an impartial inquiry of the murder of Wali Khan Babar. He said that the inquiry should be assigned to an impartial and upright officer who should rise who should carry out investigations without regard to religious, political and ethnic affiliations.
