Gehwara-e-Adab
Canada in an event held at a local Mississauga community hall,
announced its Canada wide restructuring in major cities and
appointment of Gehwara-e-Adab Central committee under the
guidance of prominent Urdu poet and scholar Wali Alam Shaheen.
Gehwara’s event was attended by media and large number of
literary figures of Greater Toronto area. During the first part
of the program; Mohamed Abbas gave details about the main idea
of program, background of Gehwara-e-Adab Canada and then invited
Wali Alam Shaheen on head table along with Iqbal Qamar Central
Organiser of MQM Canada.
Program started with recitation of Holy Quran and then Shakil
Shaikh presented beautiful Hamd-o-Naate. Iqbal Qamar Central
Organizer of MQM was then invited to address the participant who
thanked all honourable guests present and appreciated their
cooperation at present, past as well as in future, Iqbal Qamar
also paid tribute to the organizations who had been lending
their support through out the journey of Gehwara-e-Adab,
exclusively Munir Saami and Abid Jafri of Writers Forum, along
with all other important personalities and literary
organizations who have been instrumentals with their kind
support.
Iqbal Qamar briefly expressed the ideology of MQM with reference
to promotion of Literary activities across the world in general
and in Canada in particular, he also thanked prominent Literary
figure Wali Alam Shaheen for accepting offer of leading Gehwara-e-Adab
Canada and then invited him to say a few words and announce
re-structuring of Gehwara-e-Adab.
Mr. Wali Alam Shaheen after a brief speech about important of
literature in our lives and society announced the names of
different member across Canadian cites for the committees of
Gehwara-e-Adab. Shahid Raza Khan will remain in-charge of
Ghewara-e-Adab Canada and new Central Committee will be
comprised of Mohamed Abbas (Mississauge), Anis Farooqui
(Markham), Sahir Zameer (Thornclifrf), Shakil Shaikh
(Scarborough) and Shaheryar Qureshi (Edmonton).
Other committees of Canadian cities comprises as follows:
Toronto GTA (Aqeel Haider, Anwar Kamal Rizvi), Calgary Committee
(Mohsin Iqbal, Irfan Haider, Imran Siddiqui and Abid Haider),
Edmonton Committee (Dr. Seemee Wahidi), Saskatoon Committee (Tufail
Sheikh), Vancouver Committee (Syed Farhat Rizvi), Montreal
Committee (Zameer Khan and Cpt.(r) Fakhr-uddin). Hamilton
Committee comprises members from Hamilton, Burlington, Kitchner
and London (Fateh Mohammed)
Announcement was also made about the upcoming mushaira which
shall take place in spring 2011. Such events will also be
organized in Toronto and Montreal, details to follow. Wali Alam
Shaheen also announced the motion moved and approved by Central
Committee of
Gehwara-e-Adab Canada for launch of an International Literary Award (Annual Gehwara Aalmi Adabi Award) for 5 to 10 literary figures from
around the world, further plans to be announced.
The second part of the program was the Mehfil-e-Mushaira which
was emceed by Anis Farooqui and Mohamed Abbas. The
Mehfile-Mushaira was presided over by senior poet, Wali Alam
Shaheen and Ikram Barelvi.
In the mushaira Salman Ather, Anwar Kamal Rizvi, Tariq Hussain,
Rida Fatima, Parveen Sultana Saba, Shakila Rafiq, Faisal Azeem,
Jawad Faizi, Afzal Naveed, Rasheed Nadeem, Tahir Aslam Gora,
Zamin Jafri, Nasim Syed, Zakia Ghazal, Munif Ashar, and Wali
Alam Shaheen presented their poetry and were appreciated by the
audience. The Mushaira was well organized, prestigious and
enjoyed by the attendees and will be remembered. After mushaira
dinner was served during which participants and organizer
mingled and expressed mutual feelings about the success of the
Gehwara-e-Adab.
