A grand Mushaira was organized by Gahwara-e- Adab Canada on
Saturday 21st. March 2009 at the Hall of Rick Hansen High School in Mississauga.
The Mushaira was presided over by renowned poet of subcontinent Mr. Waseem
Barelvi. Mr. Haider Abbas Rizvi, deputy parliamentary leader of MQM in the
National Assembly of Pakistan who himself is a good poet, came from Pakistan to
attend the Mushaira as Chief Guest.
The turn out of attendees at the Mushaira was so huge that it failed all the
estimates. Around five hundred highly enlightened members of the society sat
continuously for five hours to listen to excellent poetry recited by the best of
the poets from all around the world. It was a great evening which started at
6:00 pm and continued till 1:00 am in the next morning.
This Mushaira was arranged as a part of Silver Jubilee celebrations of MQM which
completed its twenty five years on 18th. March. 2009. The highlights of the day
were:
That two youngsters were given opportunity to recite their poetry in front of
senior poets, which was a surprise for everybody. All the poets were highly
admired by the audience and, as expected, Mr. Waseem Barelvi proved to be the
heart of the evening. There was not a single soul among the whole audience who
was not enthralled by the depth of thoughts and feelings and the versatility of
his poetry. Mr. Haidar Abbas Rizvi’s poetry was about the sacrifices and hard
work of MQM and was very inspiring. He also informed the audience about the grim
situation Pakistanis are facing nowadays.
The greatest contribution goes to the community who participated with zeal and
vigor without which this Mushaira would be incomplete. One of the key factors
that must be appreciated is that everybody arrived on time which is very rare in
our community. All the audience left the venue fulfilled and amazed.
